According to senior journalist Hamid Mir, the Haqqanis are not a tribe, all the students of Haqqani Darul Uloom Akora Khattak are called Haqqanis, including Jalaluddin Haqqani who played a key role in the defeat of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan.
