Rashid Khan, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and mobile phone company Ufone, has died of the corona virus.
A statement issued by the PTCL spokesperson said that Rashid Khan passed away this morning (December 17) due to a long illness.
A PTCL spokesperson later confirmed that Rashid Khan had contracted the corona virus a few days ago.
The statement said that Rashid Khan took over the charge of Ufone in August 2017 and later became the President and CEO of PTCL Group in March 2019.

The PTCL Group extends its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family of the deceased.
According to the spokesperson, it was his initiatives that led us to modernize the PTCL and Ufone networks, which in turn led to unsustainable growth.
The statement said that Rashid Khan was one of the pioneers of Pakistan's telecom industry with his vision and extraordinary leadership and he is respected for his important role.
"We offer our condolences to the family of Rashid Khan on his demise."
It may be recalled that Rashid Khan was the CEO and President of Mobilink (Jazz) for a period of 6 years from 2008 to 2014.
He also worked for Silicon Valley for 15 years for various international companies.
It may be recalled that during the second wave of corona virus in Pakistan, more than 4,000 cases of global epidemic are being recorded daily in Pakistan.
By the afternoon of December 17, the total number of people infected with the virus in Pakistan had reached 448,522, of whom 396,591 recovered and the death toll reached 9,080.
