Legendary singer Alamgir, 65, who made a splash in pop music in Pakistan half a century ago, finally got a kidney transplant after many years.
Alamgir, who has sung dozens of popular songs, including "Never seen such a time, Ko Ko Corina, from you, O youth," and "I drank water from your gag", has been suffering from kidney disease for the past decade and a half.
Alamgir was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2004 and his kidneys had become almost dysfunctional and he had been on dialysis for many years.
Doctors had advised him to have a kidney transplant a decade ago but he was not getting his group of kidneys.
Alamgir also faced financial difficulties, including not being able to get the group's kidneys, and the government of Pakistan provided him with financial support from time to time after his fans raised their voices on social media.
Alamgir's death was rumored earlier this year due to ill health, but he has now confirmed that he had a successful transplant.
Alamgir shared a photo taken with his family after the kidney transplant in his Facebook post and said in a short post that his kidney transplant was successful.
The singer had told the fans in his Facebook post a day ago that after many years, he finally got the kidney of his group and now he will have a transplant.
He had moved to his family in Atlanta, Georgia, a decade and a half ago due to a global illness and was receiving treatment there, including dialysis.
During the last decade and a half, he also came to Pakistan for a short time and was seen singing at various events.
Despite the global health crisis, he kept in touch with his fans on Facebook and thanked them for their prayers and help for his health.
Alamgir was born into a political family in the former East Pakistan and now Bangladesh and moved to West Pakistan when he was just 15 years old.
Alamgir settled in Pakistan's Sindh province and began his career here, including pursuing higher education in the capital, Karachi.
Alamgir is considered one of the most popular pop singers of the 1970s and 1980s, and the magic of his voice entertained young people until the 1990s.
Many singers who stepped into pop music after Alamgir also gained fame by copying his style.
