The Punjab government declared smog a disaster and set up a smog monitoring cell, while vehicles emitting smoke to control smog will be fined Rs 2,000 instead of Rs 200.
The Smog Monitoring Cell set up at the office of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority will identify the culprits of burning crop residues through satellite imagery with the help of SPARCO and the concerned Deputy Commissioners will take stern action against those responsible. Punjab Disaster Management Authority officials said that a case would be registered against the owners of the factories which caused air pollution while the owners of the vehicles emitting smoke would be fined Rs. 2000 instead of Rs. 200.
Officials said that brick kilns in Punjab would be closed in the first week of November to ensure clean air supply.
