US senators call for making India one of the worst countries.

Fourteen US senators have written to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo calling for India to be included in the list of worst countries for religious freedom.

The letter to the Secretary of State was written by 10 Republicans and four Democrat senators, urging the US government to consider the recommendations of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.

The senator added that the commission's report on India's religious freedom, which was made in April this year, suggested that it be included in the list of worst countries.

Indian and local human rights groups based in the United States have welcomed the senators' letter and called for a ban on Indian government agencies and Indian government officials who perpetrate religious persecution.
