3-storey building collapses in India, 10 killed

A three-storey residential building collapsed just before sunrise in western India, killing at least 10 people and leaving several others feared buried under rubble.

The incident took place in Bhondi, a town near the Indian financial capital Mumbai, local officials said.

Ten people have been killed and 11 have been rescued.

More than 40 emergency volunteers have arrived at the scene, including a team of 30 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) aid workers, the official said.

NDRF Director General Satya Narayan Pardhan said in a statement on social networking site Twitter that teams equipped with special equipment and search dogs were working to rescue "20 to 25 stranded people".

Pictures posted on the NDRF's Twitter account show emergency volunteers removing heavy concrete and brick piles.

Keep in mind that the cause of the accident has not been revealed yet.

It should be noted that most of the building collapses occur in India during the monsoon season which lasts from June to September.
