Troops fire on Ukrainian military plant, killing five guards


 
A Ukrainian National Guard soldier has opened fire on security guards at a military factory in central Ukraine, killing at least five people and wounding five others.

A police statement said the incident took place at a missile factory early Thursday while the guards were being handed weapons at the start of a shift.

The assailant fired a Kalashnikov assault rifle and then fled the scene. Police are searching for the fugitive.

The ministry said the incident took place in the morning when the shooter was being given a weapon at the beginning of his shift while the motive for the crime was not yet known.
