Argentina's world-renowned footballer Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d'Or for the seventh year in a row.
Earlier in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019 the Ballon d'Or-winning footballer had a tough competition with Robert Leon Dawski and Jurgenho to win the award this year, while Cristiano Ronaldo is part of the list this time as opposed to previous awards competitions.
However, Messi, who won the Copa Amrica title for the first time for his country Argentina last year, managed to win the title by beating both his rivals.
Messi was given the Ballon d'Or trophy by his former Barcelona teammate and famous Uruguayan footballer Luis Suarez.
Speaking after winning the award at the Theater du Chatelette in Paris, Messi said: "It's great to be here again and win the award.
"Winning the Copa America title is a special year for me, winning at the Maracana Stadium is very special and I was very happy to celebrate with the people of Argentina," he said.
"I have a long career and I don't know if it was my best year but it is a special year for me to win the title for Argentina after so much criticism and hard times," he said.
It should be noted that this award has been given to Messi on the occasion when he joined the French club Paris Saint-Germain this year after ending his many years association with his former club Barcelona.
London: Cristiano Ronaldo is not happy that the Ballon d'Or award has been given to Messi.
Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has won the trophy five times so far, while Lionel Messi has won the trophy for the seventh time.
A fan wrote in a social media post that Lionel Messi "stole" the award from Lewandowski and Ronaldo, and Ronaldo publicly expressed his displeasure.
Messi has previously won the Ballon d'Or six times at Barcelona.
The world-famous football star scored the most goals in La Liga last season, earning a total of 613 points for the award.
His biggest rival for the award was Robert Leon Dawski, who did not win the award for 580 points but was named the best striker of the year.
Goalkeeper Jگنrgenho, who won the Champions League for Chelsea and the European Championship for Italy, was also considered a strong candidate for the award, but finished third with 460 points.
France's Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kante finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Ballon d'Or race.
Chelsea were named the club of the year, while their goalkeeper Edward Mandy was named the second best goalkeeper of the year as the 'Yashin Trophy' for the best goalkeeper went to Italy's Gianluigi Donoruma.
The women's Ballon d'Or was named after Spain's midfielder Alexia Putils, who led Barcelona to the Champions League title.
The night was also memorable for Barcelona in the sense that their 19-year-old footballer Pedri was awarded the Copa Trophy for the Under-21 Player of the Year award.
