Indian Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat's helicopter crashes

 

Indian Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Lakshman Singh Rawat's helicopter crashed in Tamil Nadu.

According to Indian media, an Indian military helicopter crashed in the jungle of Konar hill station in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Laxman Singh Rawat was also aboard the military helicopter.

According to Indian media, the helicopter was carrying 14 people including Bipin Rawat's wife, defense assistant, security commandos and air force pilots.

A search and rescue operation was launched after the incident, during which 3 persons were rescued while the bodies of 4 persons were recovered from the wreckage of the wrecked helicopter.

The search for more people killed and injured in the crash is underway, while efforts are underway to identify those killed.

According to the Indian Air Force, the Indian Air Force helicopter that crashed in Tamil Nadu was a Mi-17V5.

The Indian Air Force has ordered an inquiry into the cause of the crash.
