The Indian Army has launched a rescue operation but so far No further details about Bipin Rawat have been released. The Indian Air Force has also ordered an inquiry into the cause of the crash.

According to Indian media, five bodies have been exhumed from the wreckage of which two bodies have been shifted to hospital while three injured have been shifted to Wellington Cantonment Hospital in Nalgrais district and search for the rest is on. Bipin Rawat was on his way to give a lecture at the Medical College when a helicopter crashed on the way. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought details of the incident.

The Indian Air Force has confirmed that General Bipin Rawat was aboard the helicopter, which arrived in Silver from Delhi this morning. He was traveling from Silver to the Wellington Defense Establishment.

It may be recalled that General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Indian Army, retired on December 31, 2019 after completing his term, but was appointed by the Modi Government as India's first Chief of Defense Staff.
