Augmented Reality (AR) effects in Facebook Messenger are no longer limited to the individual level.
The social media company has introduced a feature called Group Effects and the name suggests that it can enable AR effects in any video call.
Some effects make users age while others include games and so on.
This feature is available for regular Messenger calls and Messenger rooms from October 21 and will soon be introduced in Instagram as well.
To use it, group effects can be selected by clicking on the smiley icon in a messenger group call.
The new addition will help Facebook compete with SnapChat and others that have been featuring AR games for some time.
It will also help Facebook focus on Metaverse, and even if it doesn't, it certainly demonstrates the company's commitment to making video chat more common.
Sharing AR effects will help users better connect with friends than face-to-face chats.
