JOHANNESBURG: The 46-year-old mayor of Johannesburg, South Africa, has died in a car crash while returning from a new voter registration campaign.
According to the international news agency, a month ago, the mayor of Johannesburg, Juleda Matungo, was involved in a car accident while returning from a visit in the area of Matungo Suito in connection with the voter registration campaign.
Police say the mayor was returning from the main highway in his car when a passerby suddenly tried to cross the road and the car collided with a speeding van coming from the front in an attempt to save him.
The accident was so severe that the front of the car was completely destroyed and Mayor Juleda Motango was killed on the spot. The 46-year-old mayor took office a month after the former mayor's death in Corona.
