Two female anchors of Pakistan Television Network started wearing hijab.
PTI and government workers began taking credit for the issue on social media. Calling it a government feat on social media, it was said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had made hijab mandatory on state-run PTV News, as a result of which a female anchor person wearing hijab was reading the news on PTV News.
However, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry clarified that wearing or not wearing hijab is a personal decision of these female anchors, we cannot impose any such dress code on our anchors and presenters.
The issue of hijab has been discussed on PTV in the past as well. Under General Zia, women appearing on television were ordered to wear headscarves. Mehtab Channa refused to accept this decision and stopped appearing on PTV.
