Islamabad police have claimed that Zahir Jaffer, accused in Noor Muqaddam murder case, has confessed to his crime.
A newspaper, a police officer with information about the investigation told on condition of anonymity that the accused had confessed to the crime during the interrogation.
"Zahir Jaffer's statement is being recorded and he will be produced before a magistrate so that he can record his statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code," he said.
Police sources also revealed that investigators have found footage of CCTV cameras installed in the neighborhood.
"In the footage, the girl can be seen jumping from the first floor and running towards the door to escape from the house," the source said.
He added that after the gate was locked, the woman hid herself in a guard's room, after which the accused could be seen entering the room and dragging her while taking her back to the house.
Meanwhile, police officials told news agency that US embassy staff met with Zahir Jaffer on Monday.
The embassy had requested the police to meet the accused as he was a dual citizen of the United States and Pakistan.
Top police officials discussed the matter and allowed embassy staff to meet at a senior police officer's office, officials said.
During the first phase of the meeting, embassy staff met the accused in the presence of two senior police officers.
Later, in the second phase, the meeting took place in the absence of police officers.
A police officer briefed embassy officials on the progress made so far in the case, officials said, adding that the accused was later transferred to the lock-up of Kohsar police station.
US embassy spokeswoman Heather Eaton said in a statement that she could not comment on the case due to privacy concerns.
Asked if the embassy was pursuing the matter or was in touch with any authority, he declined to comment.
Similar questions were asked of Inspector General of Police Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Afzal Ahmad Kausar and Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Ata-ur-Rehman, but they did not deny the meeting. Confirmed it
Accused Zahir Jaffer arrested
It may be recalled that on July 20, Noor, 27, daughter of former Pakistani Ambassador Shaukat Muqaddam, a resident of Posh Sector F-7/4, Islamabad, was killed.
An FIR was lodged against Zahir Zakir Jaffer on Tuesday night and the accused was arrested on the charge of murder under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim's father.
Yesterday, a local court in Islamabad extended the physical remand of Zahir Zakir Jaffer, accused in the murder of Noor Muqaddam, daughter of former Pakistani ambassador, for two days.
Prosecutor Sajid Cheema told the court that a weapon used in the murder, including a knife, a pistol and an iron weapon, had been recovered from the accused.
He further said that both his own and Noor's phones are yet to be recovered from the custody of Zakir Jaffer and for the same purpose he requested for 11 days extension in the physical remand of the accused.
Islamabad Inspector General of Police Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman on Friday directed the team investigating the brutal murder to apply for inclusion of the accused in the Exit Control List (ECL).
The investigation team is also looking into whether the accused has any criminal record in Pakistan, US or UK.
