Three missiles hit a U.S. air base in Iraq from an unknown location, killing a foreign civilian contractor and wounding nine others, including a U.S. soldier.
According to the international news agency, a missile attack was carried out on the American air base in the city of Erbil in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan in the north of Iraq. A missile struck a military base and struck two nearby military barracks.
A U.S. coalition spokesman said the missile strike killed one civilian contractor and wounded nine others. One US soldier was among the wounded. The identities and nationalities of those killed and injured have not been disclosed.
The Shiite group "Saraya Awliya al-Dam" has claimed responsibility for the attack on a US military base, saying "no part of the country will be safe from our attacks." We will defend every inch of the country.
On the other hand, the US coalition and Iraqi officials say that Saraya Awliya al-Dam is a small group, behind which are two Iranian-backed groups, "Kitab Hezbollah" and "Asaib Ahl al-Haq".
It is noteworthy that since the death of General Qasim Soleimani of Iran in the US attack on Baghdad airport, the attack on US embassies, installations and troops in Iraq has increased.
