A fifth journalist has been killed in Afghanistan in the past two months.
Bismillah Adil, an Afghan journalist, and human rights activist, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in western Afghanistan.
The provincial spokesman said it was the fifth journalist killed in the country in the past two months.
According to the spokesman, Bismillah Adil was targeted by gunmen near the provincial capital, Feroz Koh.
He said he was returning home after meeting his family in a nearby village when his car came under fire.
According to Arif, a spokesman for the provincial governor, Bismillah Adil's brother, and others were injured.
According to local media, the slain journalist worked as the head of the local radio station 'Sada Ghor' and was also a human rights activist in the province.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid clarified that no faction affiliated with them had fired on the journalist.
Last week, Rehmatullah, head of the journalists' union in Ghazni Province, was killed in an attack by gunmen outside his home.
The terrorist organization ISIS claimed to have killed an Afghan journalist in early December.
Earlier, a female journalist and her driver were killed in an assassination attempt in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar.
In November, two journalists were killed in separate bombings.
According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), 50 journalists and media workers were killed in 2020 for their work.
The report said most journalists and media workers were killed in areas where there was no fighting.
