Beijing has further strained its relations with Washington after the US imposed global sanctions on several Chinese companies.
According to Reuters, Beijing's top diplomat and Foreign Minister Wang Pei has said that China's relations with the United States have become more "difficult" and can only return to the right path after a period of "unprecedented difficulty." ۔
In its latest move, the United States has blacklisted dozens of Chinese companies, which Washington says have ties to the military.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Pei said in a joint interview with state media and other agencies that recent US policies on China have harmed the interests of both countries and pose a great threat to the world.
"But there is still an opportunity for both sides to start a new round of talks with new hope," he said.
After four years of escalating tensions under the Donald Trump administration, newly elected US President Joe Biden had hoped for better relations between Washington and Beijing.
Last month, the Chinese foreign minister said he hoped Biden's election would improve relations between Washington and China and begin a "journey towards purpose and rationality."
However, Biden criticized China's approach to trade and other issues.
The Chinese foreign minister, without naming Donald Trump or Joe Biden, urged the United States to respect China's chosen "social order and path to development."
He added that if Washington was "serious" then the dispute between the two sides could be resolved.
"We know that some people in the United States are worried about China's rapid growth, but the most sustainable leadership is to move forward rather than hinder other countries' growth," he added. Also read: US imposes 60 60 billion in tariffs on Chinese imports
Relations between the United States and China have deteriorated over the past year on a number of issues, including trade, technology, the coronavirus and China's claim to the South China Sea, and the enforcement of security laws in Hong Kong.
In July 2020, the United States ordered China to close its consulate in Houston for three days to protect intellectual property and information.
The United States has said in a statement that a Chinese scientist who had been involved in visa fraud and had secret ties to the military had taken refuge at the Chinese consulate in San Francisco.
In response, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenben accused the Trump administration of restricting the movement of Chinese scholars in the country, using them as a pretext to harass or take action against them.
