Unprecedented increase in imports of mobile devices in three years

Imports of mobile devices in Pakistan have increased dramatically in the last three years. In the three years since the implementation of DIRBS, imports of mobile devices from abroad have increased from 17.20 million (17.2 million) to 32.83 million (three). Crore 28 lakh 30 thousand).

Following the implementation of the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority, imports of mobile devices through legal channels increased from 17.2 million in 2018 to 28.02 million in 2019, an increase of 63%, from 2020 to date. 32.83 million devices have been imported into Pakistan. PTA has so far blocked 175,000 devices whose IMEIs were stolen through DIRBS. In addition, thanks to this system, 24.3 million (24.3 million) counterfeit / counterfeit mobile devices and more than 657,000 cloned/duplicated IMEIs were blocked after identification. Thanks to this successful system, 29 mobile device manufacturing centers have been set up locally, thanks to which more than 20 million devices have been manufactured in Pakistan since 2019, including 1.5 million 4G smartphones.

On the other hand, through DIRBS, the Federal Board of Revenue collected a total of Rs 90 billion in customs duty on imports between January 2019 and November 2020. This is an increase of Rs. 68 billion over Rs. 22 billion accumulated in 2018, an increase of 309%. In addition, the revenue of Rs. 9 billion in the individual category from January 15, 2019, to December 3, 2020, through DIRBS. While no revenue was being collected in this category before the implementation of DIRBS.
