Delivery of imported sugar to various districts has started

Federal Minister Hamad Azhar has said that sugar is available at Rs 68 per kg at utility stores. In his statement on Twitter, the Federal Minister said that imported sugar is being sold by the Punjab government at a price of Rs 81-84 per kg. He claimed that the sugar is available in utility stores at a lower price of Rs 68 per kg.

Earlier in the day, during a joint press conference with Federal Minister for Information Shibli Faraz and Federal Minister for Industries and Production Hamad Azhar in Islamabad on Friday, the Federal Minister for National Food Security had said that they have come to import wheat after almost 11 years. It has been decided that 1.8 million tonnes of wheat will be imported by February.

Unfortunately, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did not pay attention to timely procurement of wheat and the Sindh government did not procure wheat last year, after which Pasco provided them with 4-6 lakh tonnes of wheat in December when the crisis hit.

He said that wheat is being imported by the public and private sectors at present. He said that so far 122 days have passed in the wheat harvesting season in Pakistan and it has been decided to provide 4 million tonnes of wheat to the provinces immediately. He said that there is no shortage of wheat in the country at present but the prices are not coming down due to stockpiling of wheat. He said that Punjab government is giving subsidy of Rs. 5 crore per month on wheat. Wheat is being imported which will further reduce the prices and at present the price of wheat has come down by Rs. 200 in a week. Hamad Azhar said that imported sugar has come in the market which will reduce the price by Rs 15 to 20 per kg.
