The Afghan Taliban has welcomed the massive withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, saying the withdrawal was a positive step towards an agreement.
In a statement issued from the Taliban's office in the Gulf state of Qatar, a spokesman for the Afghan Taliban welcomed US President Donald Trump's decision, according to a foreign news agency.
Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said yesterday's decision to withdraw large numbers of US troops from Afghanistan by Christmas was an assurance that the agreement with the United States would be implemented.
On the other hand, US National Security Adviser Robert Brown had also announced that the number of US troops in Afghanistan would be reduced to 2,500.
It should be noted that in the agreement reached with the Afghan Taliban, the United States had promised to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by mid-2021. However, the US President's statement on the withdrawal of troops has been welcomed by the Taliban.
