Nine people have been killed when two Afghan National Army helicopters collided in the Nawa district of Helmand province, Afghanistan.
The Afghan broadcaster Tolo News quoted the Afghan Ministry of Defense as saying that the accident occurred due to technical problems last night according to local time, which is being investigated.
Earlier, security sources said that more than eight people were killed when two helicopters collided.
Sources said that the helicopters were taking back the injured personnel after unloading the commandos when the accident took place.
Omar Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor, confirmed the accident in Nawa District but did not provide further details.
According to the report, clashes have been going on in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, for the past four days since the Taliban attacks.
Kam said that in this regard, the Afghan commandos had launched an operation in Lashkar Gah with air support two days ago.
He said that the operation was still going on in different areas of Lashkar Gah in which 23 Taliban have been killed so far and 5 new outposts have been set up in Nad Ali district.
Fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan government continues despite some rounds of peace talks in the Qatari capital, Doha.
In the past few days, hundreds of Taliban have attacked security checkpoints in Helmand and seized key suburbs of the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah.
However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement that control of the occupied territories had already been taken and no new changes had taken place.
In this regard, the spokesman of the US forces in Afghanistan had said that several targets were attacked in Helmand to help the Afghan security forces who were attacked by the Taliban.
Spokesman Col. Sunny Leggett said the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces would continue to receive defensive support against Taliban attacks.
