There are now very few tribes living in the forests of the world that have no connection with the rest of the world. The Naked Auca, a tribe living in the Amazon jungle, is one of them. Joe Wheeler, a 76-year-old American adventurer, and photographer Dr. Jack Wheeler first met the tribe in 1960 at the age of 16 and took some pictures of them, which he has now presented to the world, astonishing everyone who sees how modern they are today. Even today, the people of this tribe are living like our thousands of years old ancestors.
According to Dr. Jack, the tribe lives in the rainforests of Ecuador. The people of this tribe had never seen any metal, paper or cloth before Dr. Jack arrived. Dr. Jack showed them a box of matches on which they jumped as if something very strange had come in front of them. Dr. Jack said, This cloth was used by women only to tie their baby to their body. Besides, there was no custom of wearing clothes in this tribe. Some men and women used to cover their private parts by tying small pieces of this cloth with the same fiber ropes. The women of the tribe have a tradition of enlarging the hole by putting round pieces of wood in their ear holes. Their ear piercings are several inches wide and are considered a symbol of beauty among the people of the tribe.
Dr. Jack was passing by in a small helicopter when he saw the naked people below and landed the helicopter there. Dr. Jack said that when the helicopter landed, the people fled in fear and hid. We were like a space creature to them. It took us a long time to bring them closer and allay their fears and then I became friends with them. Since then, I have visited this tribe many times during these years. Before I went there, it was known about this tribe that its people do not allow foreigners to come near and kill them. Life Magazine published a popular report on how the tribe had killed five Christian preachers in 1956 who had gone there to preach Christianity. I was warned too but when I got there it turned out to be wrong
