PM directs action against flour and sugar hoarders

 
Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government will ensure ample supply of flour and sugar while the concerned departments have been directed to crack down on those involved in stockpiling of essential commodities.

 The Prime Minister made the remarks at a meeting to review the stock of flour and sugar, their current numbers in the country, supply and demand, imports as per future requirements and prices of essential commodities.

According to a statement issued in this regard, Minister for Industry Hamad Azhar, Minister for Food Security Syed Fakhr Imam, Advisor to the Prime Minister Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Shahbaz Gul and Ishrat Hussain along with Senior Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information Lt. Gen. (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa and others. Relevant secretaries and senior officers attended the meeting while provincial chief secretaries attended the meeting through video link.

The Prime Minister was briefed in detail about the imports of flour and sugar and its current stock and was also apprised of the prices of daily necessities.

Imran Khan asked the provincial governments to further increase the supply of flour to ensure its adequate quantity in the market, as well as to provide details regarding the import of flour.

The Prime Minister directed the Chief Secretaries to prepare the physical feasibility of the existing stock of sugar, the Punjab Secretary to announce the date of harvesting of sugarcane as soon as possible while the Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Sindh to announce the official prices of sugarcane soon.
