US President Donald Trump has refused to hold a virtual election debate with his political rival and presidential candidate Joe Biden.
"I'm not going to waste my time on a virtual debate," he was quoted as saying by Reuters.
In a phone interview with Fox Business after the announcement of the new format by the non-partisan commission in charge of presidential debates, Donald Trump said that "virtual debate is not a debate."
"You sit behind a computer and argue, it's ridiculous and they cut your line whenever they want," Trump said.
The US president said he wanted to hold election rallies with his supporters.
Presidential candidate Joe Biden, meanwhile, told reporters he would follow the commission's recommendations.
He said he did not know what he would do if Trump refused to participate.
"We don't know what Trump is going to do because he changes his mind every second," Biden said.
The Commission on Presidential Debates said it plans to host a town hall-style discussion and voters and moderators will ask candidates questions from the actual venue of the debate in Miami.
A virtual debate between Trump and Biden was planned for the second of the three, while the third election debate is expected on October 22.
The second political debate between US President Donald Trump and presidential candidate Joe Biden is scheduled for October 15.
On the other hand, an aide to Joe Biden said that the Democratic nominees are still ready to take part in the election debate.
Earlier, Biden had denied holding an election with US President Donald Trump.
