Pakistan International Airlines has suspended air operations to Japan due to financial deficit.
The PIA is facing severe financial difficulties due to the ban on air operations in the United States and Europe following the issue of corona virus and suspicious pilot licenses.
PIA spokesman Abdullah Hafeez told Urdu News that the number of direct passengers from Pakistan to Japan is very low while PIA was operating flights to Japan via China but due to the corona virus operated limited flights to China. After which the flight operation of Japan was also causing financial deficit.
He added that "flights are being operated after a special permit for China, the number of which is very small and in such a case the continuation of air operations for Japan was causing a deficit."
It is believed that airlines around the world are facing severe financial problems due to the corona virus. However, Pakistan's state-owned airline PIA is also facing sanctions after the issue of questionable licenses of pilots came to light.
PIA is banned from entering Europe and the United States, including the UK, but PIA currently operates limited flights to the UK through alternative means.
In addition, due to limited Hajj from Saudi Arabia, PIA faced a deficit of Rs 12 billion, while the ban on Umrah is estimated to have caused a deficit of more than Rs 15 billion.
Overall, the PIA fears a loss of more than Rs 30 billion due to the corona virus, which has limited air operations in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other parts of the Middle East.
The company is also under severe financial pressure due to restrictions on air operations in Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States.
