Anti-terrorism court acquits PM Imran Khan in PTV Parliament attack case
The anti-terrorism court had reserved its verdict three days ago after hearing arguments on the PM's plea for acquittal.
Anti-terrorism court judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan pronounced the verdict, acquitting Imran Khan and indicting the other accused.
The court said in its judgment that the president has immunity so the case will not be prosecuted to his extent but the other accused named in the case will be indicted on November 12.
The court has summoned the named accused in the case including federal ministers Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervez Khattak, Shafqat Mehmood, Asad Umar and Aleem Khan for the next hearing.
PM Imran Khan's lawyer had submitted written arguments on the plea of acquittal that Imran Khan was implicated in a false and baseless case, there was no evidence against him and no witness testified against him. He said that since this is a political case in which there is no possibility of punishment, Prime Minister Imran Khan should be acquitted.
The prosecutor had opposed the petition before Imran Khan became the Prime Minister, but supported it after he became the Prime Minister, saying that he did not mind if Imran Khan was acquitted because it was a politically motivated case. Don't go out and just waste court time. Keep in mind that Imran Khan has been a fugitive in this case and is currently out on bail.
It may be recalled that in August 2014, the Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) staged a sit-in against alleged rigging in the general elections, during which workers from both parties tried to break through police barriers and enter the Prime Minister's House.
