According to official figures, 88 rape cases occur daily across India, and the affected women include elderly, middle-aged, underage girls and very young girls.

Uttar Pradesh was declared the most dangerous state in terms of rape, violence and exploitation of women, with 59,853 cases reported in 2019, of which 5,997 cases were of rape.

The second most dangerous state was Rajasthan, where 14,550 cases were reported in 2019, of which 3,065 were rape cases.

Maharashtra was declared the third most dangerous state for women, with 37,144 cases reported in 2019, including less than 1,000 cases of rape.

According to the NCRB report, around 31,000 women and girls were raped across India in 2019, of which 10% were women and girls from the Dalit community.
