India's Tamil film industry has been embroiled in controversy even before the shooting of a film based on the life of Sri Lankan cricketer and world cricket great spinner Mathaya Murali Dharan, where actor Vijay Sethupati has also parted ways with the film.

A political party in South India raised the question of whether the film could possibly represent the Sri Lankan Civil War, which was backed by Murali Dharan.
The party had demanded Vijay Sethopati not to act in the film as it would amount to treason with the Tamil cause.

After the opposition of the political party, a never-ending series of protests and criticism against actor Vijay Sethupati on social media began.
Murali Dharan then issued a statement in Tamil asking Vijay Sethopati to quit working on the film.
In his statement, Murali Dharan said, "I know that Sethupathi is under pressure from some people. I do not want stars like Vijay Sethupathi to get into trouble because of people who are misunderstood about me." ۔
"I don't want Vijay Sethupati to face any problem in the future, so I urge him to leave the film," Dharan said in a statement.
Vijay Sethupati shared this statement of Mathia Murali Dharan on social media and also thanked the legendary cricketer.
According to Indian media reports, Vijay Sethupathi's manager has said that the actors will not do this film anymore.
However, now the question is being raised whether the film based on the life of Murali Dharan has been closed? So the answer is no, because Murali Dharan had also said in his statement that I hope that this film based on my life will overcome all the difficulties and reach the people.
He also said that despite the problems in my life, I never gave up, I handle them, that is why I am here today.
"I agreed to make a film based on my life because I think it will inspire young cricketers," he said.
