The last rites of a Dalit girl who died after being gang-raped in India were performed by the police in the dark of night. The family members stopped the police and the body was forcibly cremated.
According to details, the gang-raped girl was killed the previous day, after which the police set her body on fire on a pyre at around 2.30 pm last night.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has expressed anger over the incident and in a message on social networking site Twitter has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
@myogiadityanath RESIGN
Instead of protecting the victim and her family, your government became complicit in depriving her of every single human right, even in death. You have no moral right to continue as Chief Minister. 3/3
Priyanka Gandhi said in a Twitter message that the girl's family kept muttering at half past one in the night but the body of the victim was forcibly burnt by the UP administration, adding that the government did not protect her when she was alive.
He said that when she was attacked, the government did not provide timely treatment and now after the death of the girl, the government deprived the family of the right to perform the last rites of the daughter and did not even give respect to the victim.
The video of the police operation shows the victim's family arguing with police. Relatives of the victim themselves stood in front of the ambulance carrying the body and climbed on its bonnet in protest but the police did not listen to one of them and performed the last rites themselves. The victim's mother was exhausted and helpless after the last rites. Is visible
Demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Priyanka further wrote that her government was busy depriving everyone of human rights instead of protecting the victim and her family, even after her death! You have no moral right to be the Chief Minister.
It is to be noted that the victim's brother has alleged that the police took the body away from the house without informing him and performed the last rites in silence.
The victim's father and brother went on a sit-in against the police action, after which police officers put them in a black private car and sent them to another place.
