The New York-based Sutbhi auction house has said that the extraordinary rare pink, purple diamond made in a Russian mine will cost بعد 38 million after being hit by a hammer in Russia on May 11.
The rare oval-shaped stone, dubbed the Russian ballet "The Spirit of the Rose", is the largest of its kind to be offered at auction. The trend of colored stones has increased in recent years as an asset by the very rich.
According to the auction house, the 14.83-carat diamond was cut from the largest pink crystal ever found in the mine of Russian producer Alrosa.
"The presence of pink diamonds in nature is rare in any size," said Gary Schuller, global chairman of the Sotbhi Jewelry Division. Only 1% of all pink diamonds are larger than 10 carats.
Naturally colored diamonds are found in the world because they have a special lattice that deflects light rays to create color instead of white stone.
Analysts say pink diamonds are both rare and aesthetically pleasing.
The gem is on display in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taipei ahead of its November 11 auction in Geneva.
