A case of treason has been registered against senior journalist and chairman PEMRA Absar Alam in Jhelum district.
The case against Absar Alam has been registered in Dina police station on the complaint of Chaudhry Naveed Ahmed Advocate, President of Justice Lawyers Forum. The petitioner has based his tweets on Absar Alam against the Armed Forces of Pakistan and the Prime Minister and has requested that a case of high treason be registered against him.
The text of the FIR states that Absar Alam, a former chairman of PEMRA and a journalist by profession, has used foul language against the Armed Forces of Pakistan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Twitter and other social media in the category of treason. I come Absar lives in the shadow of the beloved homeland and is hollowing out the roots of the beloved homeland in order to carry out the nefarious intentions of the enemies. May Allah Almighty keep the forces of Pakistan safe and sound forever.
A case has been registered against Absar Alam under sections 124, 131, 499, 505 of the constitution and section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. Some of these provisions are also included in the case registered against journalist Bilal Farooqi, who was arrested from Karachi on Friday.

Commenting on the case registered against Bilal Farooqi, social activist and well-known lawyer Jibran Nasir had said that the FIR against Bilal Farooqi has been registered under sections 500 and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code. It is to be noted that an FIR under Section 505 cannot be registered without the permission of the provincial, federal or competent authority. This is another example of media repression.
According to Gibran Nasir, the state is aware that this is a weak FIR which will be dismissed without any special hearing due to the inclusion of Section 505. Nevertheless, the registration of this case will have the advantage that it will serve the purpose of harassing Bilal Farooqi and his family. There is an excuse.
