Facebook and Instagram boycott campaign over 'false information'

Many famous American showbiz, political and social figures are closing their social media accounts in unique protests against the world's largest social media site 'Facebook' and its sub-social sharing application 'Instagram'.

According to the news agency Reuters, well-known reality star Kim Kardashian also joined the 'boycott campaign' which started after the appeal of the American social organization working for the protection of public rights.

Kim Kardashian is one of the 10 most followed personalities on Instagram, while she is also seen as an influential figure on other social media sites, including Facebook.

Kim Kardashian wrote in an Instagram post on September 15 that the spread and dissemination of false information on Facebook has a devastating effect on the US election and undermines democracy.

The TV star wrote that she connects with her fans only through Facebook and Instagram, but she cannot remain silent on the spread of misinformation on these same platforms.

The TV star also shared a photo in support of the boycott campaign against the Facebook group "Stop Hate for Profit" and appealed to fans to join the campaign.

Kim Kardashian will keep her Instagram and Facebook accounts closed for 24 hours on September 16 and 17 in the United States.

Reuters reported that the campaign involved several showbiz personalities in addition to Kim Kardashian, some of whom closed their accounts for 24 hours, while several announced that they would close their accounts soon.

The campaign against Facebook was launched by a US civil rights organization in July this year, but has intensified since the US election, with the campaign group urging key figures to use their social media accounts. Keep closed for 24 hours.

Facebook announced shortly after the campaign launched that it would work with a civil rights group to stop the spread of misinformation.

However, Facebook did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the media.

It is thought that if key figures such as Kim Kardashian became part of the boycott campaign and closed their accounts for 24 hours, Facebook would suffer huge financial losses.

Facebook has been accused of spreading false information on its sub-social sharing application Instagram and collaborating with foreign organizations during the US election since 2016.

After Donald Trump's surprise victory in the 2016 US election, Facebook was accused of spreading false information to the public, which led to Donald Trump winning the vote.

Facebook was also accused of paving the way for Donald Trump's victory with the help of Russia, but Facebook later denied allegations that it directly contributed to Donald Trump's victory.

However, Facebook later admitted that during the US presidential election, it had received advertisements from some political institutions run by Russia, which must have benefited Donald Trump.
