25% increase in internet usage in the country during lockdown

The nationwide lockdown caused by the corona virus epidemic since March this year has seen a significant decline in many businesses, but also a dramatic increase in revenue from overuse of the Internet.

According to a report published in Dawn newspaper, a multinational company providing infrastructure services in the telecom sector, Adotco, recorded a 25 per cent increase in internet usage across Pakistan during the lockdown.

Speaking to media, Arif Hussain, Managing Director (MD) of Advoca Pakistan, said that a 10% decrease in phone calls was recorded during the lockdown.

Arif Hussain said that the year 2020 has taught a lot to telecom companies due to lockdown and now the companies will take steps to provide better services in new areas.

He said that further increase in internet usage in the near future would intensify the competition among telecom companies and every company would try to provide good internet service at low cost and all these efforts would ultimately benefit the consumers. Is.

Adotco has worked with all four telecom companies in the country as a third party to improve infrastructure and services, and the company still has a key role to play in improving the telecom sector.

The demand for internet is increasing day by day in the country and housewives including villagers and laborers are also using internet.

Currently 2 submarine cables are working for better internet coverage in the country while work is underway on the third cable which is likely to start work by next year.

In addition, work on laying a fourth submarine cable is expected to begin soon, as well as a number of other infrastructure projects by internet providers.

According to official figures, at present 25 per cent of the country's population, amounting to about 50 million, lacks basic telephone service, while the government is working on a plan to provide basic internet services, including telephone, to the entire population. Is doing

According to Adutco MD Arif Hussain, in the last few years, the use of the Internet has spread from the rich to the middle and poor, and now housewives, including laborers, are looking for opportunities to have fun on the Internet.

According to Arif Hussain, the last few years have also seen an increase in the tendency of women to do business through the internet and now the working class and women also do not consider it a waste of money to use the internet.

He suggested the telecom sector companies to speed up the service by improving other infrastructure including the best of towers.

He hoped that the sale of 1800 and 2100 mAz band segment by the government would accelerate and improve 3G and 4G services in the country as well as significantly increase internet usage.
