There have been 11,000 lightning strikes in the US state of California in 72 hours.
Thousands of people were displaced by lightning while five people lost their lives. Lightning struck an area of 1,250 square kilometres near San Francisco, destroying greenery, settlements and forests. In all, 300 places in the state have caught fire due to lightning.

U.S. officials say 33 firefighters, including civilians, were injured in the blaze. So far, 175 places have been destroyed by lightning and another 50,000 are feared to be destroyed.
