Pakistani Athlete Asad Malik died in a traffic accident
LAHORE: Former Olympian and captain Asad Malik has died in a traffic accident. Former hockey Olympian and captain Asad Malik has died in a traffic accident while his daughter has also been critically injured. Asad Malik belongs to a hockey family. Besides his younger brother Saeed Anwar, nephews Anjum Saeed and Naeem Amjad have also represented Pakistan in the Olympics.
It is the only family in Pakistan with four members representing Pakistan in the Olympics. Asad Malik won two gold and one silver medal in the Asian Games. The Pakistani team won a gold medal at the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games, which was also attended by Asad Malik.
The Pakistani team won a silver medal in the 1966 Asian Games in Bangkok and Asad Malik was part of that team, while the Pakistan team won a gold medal in the 1970 Bangkok Asian Games in which Asad Malik also represented Pakistan.
Asad Malik also protested against the wrong decision of the umpire in the final of the Munich Olympics. President Pakistan Hockey Federation Brigadier (retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and Secretary Olympian Asif Bajwa have expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Asad Malik.
