Lionel Messi won the FIFA Men's Player of the Year award
while his rival Cristiano Ronaldo stayed away from Milan's famed La Scala Opera
House.
According to AFP reports, Barcelona striker Lionel Messi's
win was astonishing as he overcame UEFA's best player-winning van Dyke by
helping Liverpool's Champions League last season. ۔
Ronaldo, who played for Yuantos forwards, was also nominated
for the award, but he was refused to attend the event as he was named with
Messi in FIFA's 11 best teams.
The 32-year-old Messi and 28-year-old Van Dyke are now in
the race to get to Belinda Dee and will be announced December 2.
Speaking to the event participants at the award-winning
event, Lionel Messi said, "The most important thing for me is a collective
win, but tonight is very special for me."
This is the first time Messi has received the FIFA Best
Award, which was established in 2016.
Ronaldo had previously won the award in 2016 and 2017, while
Croatia's Lukas Moderch overtook both Ronaldo and Messi last year.
Messi was the top scorer in the Champions League with 12
goals but Liverpool defeated Messi's club Barcelona in the semifinals.
