Demands for real-world punishment for crimes committed in Metaverse

A UAE minister has said that crimes committed in Metaverse should be punished in the real world, while the effects of crimes committed in the virtual world would be felt in the real world as well.

According to the international website, a minister of the United Arab Emirates has demanded that the punishment for the virtual crimes committed in Metaverse be given in the real world. UAE Minister of Artificial Intelligence Omar Sultan Ulema has said that the real consequences of serious crimes committed in Metaverse should be found.

Religious Clerics  told the World Economic Forum that Metaverse could be so realistic that the consequences of the virtual crimes committed in it could harm the real world.

The Minister said that if I unknowingly send you some text on WhatsApp, is it correct? It may scare you to some extent but it will not create the memories that lead to post-traumatic stress disorder. But if I come to Metaverse and it's an almost realistic world we're talking about in the future and I actually kill you in it, and you see it. So it really takes you to a certain point where you need to aggressively enforce these laws.

Metaverse has documented numerous incidents of sexual harassment and virtual assault since its inception.
