Four people, including three Chinese teachers, were killed in a suicide bombing at Karachi University, VIDEO Footage

At least four people, including three Chinese teachers, were killed and several others injured in a suicide attack on a van of Chinese teachers at Karachi University.

A female bomber blew herself up at the gate of the Confucius Institute, which teaches Chinese language at Karachi University, just as it was about to enter the van of Chinese teachers.

The blast was so loud that its sound could be heard far away, the windows of nearby buildings shattered and panic spread among the people while the van caught fire. Four people were killed and several others were injured in the incident. The banned Baloch Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the attack.

As soon as the incident was reported, Rangers, police, fire brigade and other rescue agencies rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to the hospital. The registrar of Karachi University said that three Chinese teachers and a van driver were killed in the blast.

CTD in-charge Raja Umar Khattab said the blast was a suicide bombing, which was claimed by the Baloch separatist group.

Raja Umar Khattab said that IED was not used in the attack due to tight security of the university, as it was difficult to install IED device on the vehicle, so a suicide bomb was detonated.

SP Gulshan Iqbal said that ball bearing marks were found on the affected vehicle. A team of Bomb Disposal Squad is inspecting the site.

Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon has said that a burqa-clad woman may have been involved in the blast, but the final details will come to light after an investigation.

Eyewitnesses said that as soon as the van reached the Confucius Institute, an explosion took place and three Rangers personnel on motorcycles behind the van also woke up and were injured.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the van blast inside Karachi University and expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives.

The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and said that the incident was highly reprehensible and shared the grief of the bereaved families. The Prime Minister also prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.

The Prime Minister called Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and inquired about the details of the blast. The Sindh Chief Minister informed him that three Chinese nationals and a Pakistani driver had been killed in the incident and every effort was being made to nab the culprits.
