Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in China to be received by President Xi Jinping amid tensions with European countries, including the United States and Britain, over the Ukraine conflict.
According to the World News Agency, the Russian president arrived in Beijing to meet with his Chinese counterpart. In a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the two leaders agreed to help each other in the event of regional tensions, as well as energy deals.
Russia is the largest supplier of gas to Europe, accounting for about 40 percent of the European Union's demand, but now Russia has agreed to sell 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year to China.
Russia is facing economic sanctions due to the Ukraine conflict, which will prevent it from selling gas to European countries, so Russia wants to supply its gas to China to protect its economy from a possible blow.
Meanwhile, Western countries have also started considering other options due to possible blockage of gas supply from Russia. In this regard, the United States has extended a hand of friendship to Qatar in order to obtain LNG.
Russia currently has more than 100,000 troops stationed on the Ukrainian border, which Western nations say is preparing for an attack on Ukraine, in response to which it has decided to send NATO troops.
Russia has accused the United States and Britain of interfering in the region and said sanctions were being used to justify the attack on Ukraine.
