Heavy snowfall in Japan affects daily life, limited to public homes

Heavy snowfall in Japan has disrupted daily life and confined people to their homes.

Due to bad weather in Japan, 123 flights were canceled and 67 train services were suspended.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has appealed to the public to travel only in areas where snow is expected, and not to travel unnecessarily.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said snowfall was expected to reach 20 to 40 centimeters in Yamanashi prefecture and 20 centimeters in the mountains of Nagano, Shizuoka and Kanto by Friday morning.

Japan's All Nippon Airways has announced that it has canceled a total of 96 domestic flights yesterday as a precaution, while Japan Airlines has decided to suspend 27 flights from Hanida Airport.

Japanese rail operator JR East has also announced that it has suspended 67 services, including a limited number of express trains running between Tokyo, Nagano and Yamanashi.
