The man who entered a Jewish synagogue in the United States and took four people hostage, including a monk, and demanded the release of Aafia Siddiqui in return, has been identified as Malik Faisal Akram.
According to the International News Agency, a man entered the Jewish synagogue Beth Israel in the US state of Texas and held four people, including a monk, hostage for 10 hours. FBI agents entered and released the hostages, and the gunman was killed.
British police have not yet said how the gunman was killed, but a statement today identified him. The hostage-taker at the synagogue was Malik Faisal Akram, 44, a British citizen.
Malik Faisal Akram had arrived in the US from UK on a visit visa two weeks ago and bought arms through a local agent. However, it was not clear why he chose the synagogue.
When the gunman entered Beth Israel, Jews were engaged in worship, and the voice of the gunman can be heard on Facebook live streaming, shouting for the release of Aafia Siddiqui and posing as her brother.
On the other hand, Aafia Siddiqui's sister Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui while condemning the incident of taking hostages of citizens in the synagogue said that the person involved in the incident has nothing to do with her family.
On the other hand, the family of Malik Faisal Akram said in their statement that they could not support this act of individual. Attacks and violence are reprehensible on anyone, Jewish, Christian or Muslim.
A statement issued by the family also said that Malik Faisal Akram was suffering from mental illness.
Texas, meanwhile, has confirmed that no evidence of group involvement has been found. It was an individual process.
In addition, British police have arrested two young men under the age of 19 in an operation. His identity has not been revealed, but both countries are said to be sons of Faisal Akram.
British and American intelligence agencies have also set up networks to exchange information and assist in the investigation.
