WhatsApp announced the introduction of a service to transfer chat history from iOS devices to Android phones in August when Samsung introduced new foldable phones.
This is a feature that has been in demand by consumers for some time.
This feature was introduced in early September 2021 for Samsung phones running the early Android 10 or 11 operating system.
Then in October it was extended to Google Pixel phones and Android devices running Android 12.
But now the company has started working on the feature of transferring chat history from Android phone to iPhone.
According to WhatsApp update tracking site WABetaInfo, this feature has been added to the new beta version of WhatsApp for iOS.
This update indicates that WhatsApp will allow users to chat data from Android to iOS devices.
Screenshots were also shared in the report which shows how the feature will work.
Apparently, before the transfer, permission will be sought from WhatsApp, after which it will be asked to open the app and keep the phone unlocked till the chat is transferred.
In this transfer, account information, profile photos, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media (voice messages, photos and videos) and settings will all be transferred from one phone to another.
But call history and display name chat will not be part of the transfer.
Announcing the feature in August, the company said the tool was difficult to implement because all messages are end-to-end encrypted and stored on the device.
WhatsApp, OS developers and phone makers needed extra work to transfer this data.
In simple words, this tool is the result of the joint efforts of all.
This new feature will also be useful for multi-device support as this chat migration tool will allow users to connect multiple devices under one account.
