Deaths during snowfall in Murree: People angry at government for not taking action

While the entire nation was saddened by the deaths of people in the freezing cold and vehicles during the snowfall in Murree, a popular tourist destination of Pakistan, the people took the government by surprise for not taking precautionary measures.

As soon as it snows in Murree during winter, people from all over Pakistan flock there for tourism.

The recent winter snowfall in Murree started at the end of December last year and is still continuing.

Due to the continuous snowfall in Murree, people from remote areas of Pakistan had also arrived there for sightseeing and Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry had said in his tweet on January 5 that one lakh vehicles had entered Murree.

The situation in Murree became tense after thousands of vehicles entered the area and heavy snowfall intensified, and on January 8, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said Murree was declared a disaster area and closed to traffic.

The Home Minister also said that 16 to 19 people died due to snowfall in their own vehicles in the cold and due to lack of safety.

The interior minister said a state of emergency had been declared in Murree and a large contingent of army, police and other civilian personnel had been sent to help.

Due to heavy snowfall in Murree, lack of knowledge of the people and lack of precautionary measures by the administration, people criticized the government and the trend of 'Murree and Snowfall' came to the fore on Twitter.

While on social media, people blamed the tourists, the people blamed the local administration and the government for the tragic deaths and said that the administration should have asserted its responsibility in such circumstances.

According to people, the administration did not stop the dying traffic beforehand and despite the deteriorating situation, the administration remained asleep.

Journalist Omar Bacha tweeted that four of Mardan's friends died in Murree due to snow and severe cold.

Some people wrote that the government which cannot save 6,000 local tourists from disaster, invites foreign tourists to come.

Some people have appealed to the public to stop sharing videos and photos of the deaths in Murree.
