India's Test and ODI captain Virat Kohli has reduced his salary in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has said that Virat Kohli decided to reduce his salary in the best interest of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
According to Indian media, Virat Kohli is the first player to be retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the next season under the IPL's 'retention policy' but according to the salary cap of the IPL, RCB has given Virat Kohli Rs 150 million. Can pay as compensation which is less than their previous salary.
Apart from Virat Kohli, the other two players retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the current IPL season are Glenn Maxwell of Australia, Muhammad Siraj of India, Maxwell retained for Rs 110 million and Muhammad Siraj for Rs 70 million.
Virat Kohli was paid Rs 170 million by Royal Challengers Bangalore last season but has been bought for Rs 150 million for the 2022 season.
Parthiv Patel, who plays for Kohli in the Indian team as well as in the IPL team RCB, says that Virat Kohli has no objection to the reduction in his salary and he has done so only for his team.
The former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman said that Virat Kohli proved with his decision that he is a good sportsman as well as a good leader as it would enable the franchise to have better players in the auction.
It may be recalled that Virat Kohli had been captaining Royal Challengers Bangalore for the last 9 seasons of IPL but a few weeks after leaving the captaincy of the Indian T20 team, he also announced his resignation from the leadership of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
