Israel has unveiled plans to spend more than 310 million to double the Jewish settler population in the Golan Heights.
It should be noted that 40 years ago, Israel occupied the territory of Syria and annexed it.
According to the AFP news agency, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett held a weekly cabinet meeting in the Meow Hama community in the Golan Heights on Sunday and vowed that this was a moment to increase the number of Jewish settlers in the area.
"Our goal is to double the Israeli population in the Golan Heights," he said.
The Israeli prime minister's new plan will spend one billion shekels to improve housing, transport, tourism and medical facilities in the region.
The Golan Heights is home to about 25,000 Israeli settlers, including about 23,000 Druze who remained in the area after Israel's occupation in the 1967 Six-Day War.
Israel annexed the area on December 14, 1981, but its move was not recognized by most of the international community.
However, former US President Donald Trump, who has a soft spot for Israel, recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 2019.
Naftali Bennett said in a statement on Sunday that it was not necessary to say that the Golan Heights belonged to Israel, but also referred to the position of US President Joe Biden's administration, which had assured Israel of a new president. Despite this, no change has been made in the policy.
Shortly after the Biden administration took office in January, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said there were legal reservations about Trump's move as Syria continued to condemn the occupation as a clear violation of its sovereignty.
However, Anthony Blanken said in no uncertain terms that there was no possibility of reversing the move taken under Donald Trump.
Israel and Syria are still technically at war, and the Golan Heights is the main border between the two countries.
