Indian helicopter crashes, General Bipin Rawat seriously injured, 11 died

 

Indian Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Lakshman Singh Rawat's helicopter crashed in Tamil Nadu.

General Bipin Rawat has been seriously injured in the accident, so far 11 deaths have been confirmed.

According to Indian media, an Indian military helicopter crashed in the jungle of Konar hill station in the state of Tamil Nadu.

According to Indian media, the military helicopter was carrying 14 people, including Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Lakshman Singh Rawat, his wife, defense assistants, security commandos and air force pilots, including five crew members and nine passengers.

A search and rescue operation was launched after the incident, during which 3 people were rescued while the bodies of 11 people were recovered from the wreckage of the wrecked helicopter.

Efforts are also underway to identify those killed and injured in the crash.

According to the Indian Air Force, the Indian Air Force helicopter that crashed in Tamil Nadu was a Mi-17V5.

The Indian Air Force has ordered an inquiry into the cause of the crash.

According to the Indian News Agency, the bodies found at the site of the helicopter crash have been shifted to a military hospital, with 85% of the injured burnt.

According to Indian media, the Chief of Indian Air Force has reached Silver Air Base from where he will visit the site of the military helicopter crash.

Former Indian Army Chief General JJ Singh while talking to Indian media said that the bodies found at the crash site were burnt.

He said that it was difficult to identify the bodies as they were burnt.

On the other hand, the Indian Defense Minister reached the Parliament House where he will give a briefing on the military helicopter crash.

It may be recalled that General Bipin Rawat retired from the post of Chief of Indian Army Staff on December 31, 2019 after completing his tenure.

After retirement, the Modi government appointed General Bipin Rawat as India's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS).
