An air defense test caused an explosion near Iran's Natanz nuclear plant.
The AFP report quoted Iran's state news agency as saying the blast was heard in the sky 20 kilometers from the nuclear plant.
An eyewitness said that the residents of Badrud heard a noise and saw a glow in which something was seen exploding in the sky above the city.
However, Iranian military spokesman General Amir Trikhani told state TV that there was no danger. "The missile system was tested an hour ago to test our capability on the ground and there is no danger," he explained.
The situation comes at a time when Iran's negotiations with world powers are in doubt.
Israel has repeatedly stated that it will use all possible means, including the use of force, to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran also conducts exercises from time to time to improve the security of its nuclear facilities.
According to an Iranian military spokesman, the exercises are being conducted in a secure and coordinated defense network to test systems in the region.
Talks on a 2015 nuclear deal resumed in Vienna on Monday, with Israel urging world powers to abandon talks with Iran.
"I hope they will not reach a bad deal that is intolerable from our point of view," said David Barnia, head of Israel's Mossad foreign intelligence agency.
The United States has warned that it will not allow Iran to "delay tactics" in negotiations over its nuclear program, while continuing uranium enrichment and other activities. ۔a
