The 'decision' to rename Facebook, what will be the new name?

Facebook is planning to change the name of its company so that it can focus on building
Metaverse .

According to a source familiar with the matter, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg plans to speak at the company's annual Connect conference on October 28, but he could announce it earlier. This means that the company wants to go beyond the name of social media and become its identity.

Following the rebranding, the blue Facebook app will likely be introduced as a sub-brand, similar to the company's proprietary apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and others.

According to The Verge, a Facebook spokesperson declined to comment on the news.

Facebook already has more than 10,000 employees working on hardware such as AR glasses, which Mark Zuckerberg thinks will eventually be everywhere, like smartphones.

In July, Mark Zuckerberg told The Verge that over the next few years, we will effectively eliminate the perception of being just a social media company and establish ourselves as a Metaverse company.

'Facebook is not the first tech company to change company name'

Facebook is not the first leading tech company to change its name as its ambitions have grown. In 2015, Google was completely reorganized under a holding company called Alphabet, with the aim of creating the impression that it was no longer just a search engine, but with 'driverless' cars and health tech companies. With a large company.

Aside from Zuckerberg's comments, Facebook is working on a regular basis to focus more on next-generation technology. Last year it set up a special Metaverse team, most recently announcing the promotion of AR and VR chief Andrew Boseworth to chief technology officer.

A few days ago, Facebook also announced the hiring of 10,000 more employees to work on Metaverse in Europe.
