ISIS fighters disguised as Afghan refugees could pose a threat to the region, Russia said


 
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that about 2,000 dangerous ISIS fighters from northern Afghanistan could enter the former Soviet Union countries, including Russia, and carry out acts of terrorism.

According to the international news agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his address to the summit of the leaders of the countries that became independent from the former Soviet Union, called ISIS fighters a threat to peace in the region.

President Vladimir Putin has expressed concern that about 2,000 dangerous ISIS fighters from Syria and Iraq have fled northern Afghanistan.

President Vladimir Putin has expressed concern that the militants could enter the former Soviet Union in the guise of refugees and carry out acts of terrorism.

Russia's president has called on former Soviet leaders to increase their contacts and re-establish a network of intelligence-sharing agencies to deal with the threat.

Earlier, in a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on the Taliban government to take steps to curb ISIS's growing presence in the country.
