10,000 children killed or injured in Yemen war, UNICEF

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) says 10,000 children have been killed or injured in the war in Yemen.

According to Al Jazeera, UNICEF spokesman James Elder, during a briefing in Geneva, called for an end to the war in Yemen. They have been injured since the beginning of the war.

James Elder said that this number is what the institutions know and there are also countless children who do not know.

He said the UN had released "verified figures" which were certainly lower than the actual number as there were no records of deaths or injuries of many children.

"UNICEF needs 23 235 million on an emergency basis to continue its efforts to save lives in Yemen by mid-2022," he said.

A UNICEF spokesman said: "Otherwise, the agency will have to reduce its work and stop its relief work for children in need. Funding is very important. We can draw a clear line between donations and saving children's lives."

The United Nations has described Yemen as the country with the worst humanitarian crisis ever.

The ongoing conflict in Yemen over the Arabian Sea has caused economic devastation, social and health services in crisis, but the UN relief program is helping people.

Funds desperately needed.

A UNICEF spokesman warned of the funding situation, saying that without ending the war in Yemen, UNICEF would not be able to reach all children in the country.

"There is no choice but to say, without more international aid, more children will die who have nothing to do with this conflict," he said.

"Four out of every five children need humanitarian assistance and there are more than 11 million children," he said.

"4 million children are severely malnourished, more than 2 million children are out of school, 4 million children are close to being out of school," said James Elder.

It should be noted that the civil war in Yemen began in 2014 where the capital Sanaa was occupied by Houthi rebels, who are believed to have the backing of Iran.

Later, allies of the Arab countries, led by Saudi Arabia, intervened in support of the government and a regular war broke out.

The war in Yemen has so far killed and injured millions and left millions homeless.
